How to Get Up When Your Business Falls

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

It was a gorgeous Southern California Monday morning. I was listening to the inspiring words of Tony Robbins as I happily jogged down the street...until I fell. It hurt. After checking that all body parts still worked, I kept running. I was still 2 miles from my home. What a wonderful metaphor for business (and life). A business goes up, and a business falls. We all fall. When that happens, dust yourself off and keep running. You'll eventually reach your destination.

Business is a marathon, not a sprint. Many people overestimate what their business can accomplish in a year and underestimate what their business can accomplish in a decade. When your business falls, this is a message. Use this as an opportunity to grow. Ask questions like, "What business are we in? How can our business provide better service? What can our business learn from what just happened? How can our business change going forward?" If you ask enough good questions, your brain will supply you with the answers to the way forward.
